Indian Movie Critics need a reality check...

Dabangg,Ready,Bodyguard,Rowdy Rathore and Bol Bacchan have two things in common-firstly all of these were panned by the critics and second they all made more than 100 crores. This makes me wonder-do critics really matter ? The answer probably is both yes and no.Yes because we may go and see these films making them 100 grossers but we do read the reviews too and no because if the review mattered none of us would have gone and watched these movies

Critics probably should not have a universal criterion for reviewing the movies, the genre of movies should definitely be considered and also the intent of the movies.None of the above films claimed to be anything more than entertainers. The films unabashedly claimed that they aimed to entertain the audience and not preach something or give out a social message.Sure there are films like 3 Idiots,Munnabhai series and Taare Zameen Par who do both-that is give out a social message in an entertaining way but not all movies can do so and even if they try to,the audience will reject an overdose of movies with social messages

Just think of this can we compare a newspaper and a general interest magazine? We enjoy both and both are important in their own way.You can neither read newspapers throughout the day nor can you read magazines the whole day.In the same way we cant compare a Test Cricket match  between two big cricketing nations and an IPL T 20 Match. The same way we cant compare hardcore commercial cinema with one which takes a middle path of both entertaining and giving a message

If the genre of movies is considered I am sure all the above mentioned movies will get different stars-as in all these kinds of movies are outrightly rejected as being a 1 or 2 stars movie. But if critics analyse these movies in the same way they analyse so called good movies they will have a lot to write about these movies tooThe action in Dabangg is different from that of Bodyguard the same way the comic element is different in Ready and Bol Bacchan.

Critics are just making fool of themselves by not giving these movies their due. They need to think why the movies they ridicule go on making crores. They know that they write these reviews for the viewers and if in spite of such atrocious reviews they go out and watch these movies then the connect between them and the viewer doesnt' exist at all

On a personal level I am a big movie buff and tend to enjoy all kinds of movies.I enjoy a Naseeruddin Shah movie as much as a Salman Khan movie.I like both Ardhsatya and Wanted, both are cop movies and equally entertaining but I cant' compare the two because they belong to different genres

The last quarter of 2012 is lined up with some very interesting and different movies with an issue based movie like a Chakravyuh alternating with a masala entertainer like Son of Sardar.Hope the critics rate them fairly and salavage some of their pride.....
